The Gap is a nortorious spot for suicides along the cliffs at Sydney Heads. The song "The Gap", loaded with unusual chord progressions, melodic bass lines and a well paced beat, opens with a string quartet and features a viola solo and outro which in itself is very unusual. Haunting vocals and lyrics create an air of hope, however the underlying music is quite dark.
The song's structure is very different to current compositions with piano delivering an array of major 7th and 9th chords and a music box, for the first time, has been used as an instrument.

Originally recorded for the album "The Valley Of The Shadows" 2003 then remastered for inclusion in the double album "Getting Off At Redfern".
